Chase Burton

A visual Writer/Director since picking up a home camera at the age of eight, Chase Burton would eventually oversee the creation of a short film called MATHER, a 23-minute mind-bending space western. With a background in cinematography, film theory, and screenwriting, attending film school in Los Angeles & Australia, working in the film business for over a decade and immersing himself in the Deaf community, Chase gained a deep appreciation for storytelling, especially the hero’s journey throughout the Jodorowsky/Camoin Tarot de Marseille major arcana imagery.

The story of MATHER was conceived during a stretch of time where writer/director Chase Burton was fascinated by circumstances surrounding the 1965 Watts Rebellion while studying the Jodorowsky/Camoin Tarot card deck. Chase went on a creative bender, taking the classic Hero's Journey concept and using tools learned in film school to navigate the complexities of the Watts Rebellion through the eyes of Noah Purifoy, an artist with a body of work sculpted out of the wreckage left behind by the riots. With memorable
visuals and an original score by Makeup + Vanity Set, MATHER is a 23-minute film written and directed by Chase Burton. Based on the spirit of Noah Purifoy, the titular hero MATHER discovers a mysterious box
of seeds. Confronted by the power of the seeds, the hero faces the ultimate choice between creation or destruction.
